Gray Squirrel Ingenuity

Introduction

The story unfolds ...

a dialogue of mutual observation began. A fascinating world began to emerge, a world of life and death, all the while in a state of wild abandon at high play. (video, not yet available)

Individual squirrels began to make themselves known to me. Individual little lives, being lived before me, like pieces of a puzzle. A "snapshot", if you will, of moments in time, from another perspective.

Friday, June 28, 1996. In the early mid day, a House Finch was also engaged, witnessing the activities documented below:

The feeder is under siege. A SQUIRREL THOUGHT!

Unable to access the sunflower chips directly, this squirrel then tries to reach.

With an awkward and uncomfortable angle of approach, access needs to be improved.

Some (re-engineering) adjustments need to be made.

The reach is facilitated (a much more comfortable fit)

ANOTHER SQUIRREL

(hard at work)

the proof is in the whiskers

See the green bits of plastic in the whiskers and on the upper arm

And watching all this from the perch above

American Goldfinch

Steller's Jay

"VICTORY"

Sticking her tongue out. (Not the only one, see the green bits photo.)

Other photos this day: Pine Siskins.
